Canoo Reveals Electric Pickup Truck; Pre-Orders Opening Soon

About two years ago, an unusual U.S.-based EV startup, Canoo, unveiled its first subscription vehicle, the canoo, a do-it-all minivan with a greenhouse top and a 250-mile range. Built in China but designed in America, the nifty little workhorse was created by Richard Kim, who also designed the BMW i-Series cars, the i3 and i8, and the Faraday FF91 besides.

Canoo is back in the news late this winter, this time with an electric pickup design. The truck is built on the company platform, and is clearly a sibling of the canoo in style and purposefulness. It can also be quite powerful—its optional dual-motor drivetrain can produce up to 600 horsepower and 550 pound-feet of torque. Range is said to exceed 200 miles.

The pickup’s more utilitarian features are exercises in sheer versatility and design acumen. The bed can be configured as enclosed if desired, and it can also be expanded to increase its storage space by a third. Panels can be purposed as worktables, and electrical outlets are included in the build. And options include camper shells. Like the Canoo van, the pickup is an elegantly well thought-out vehicle.

Canoo is planning on opening the order books this spring and aims to start deliveries in the beginning of 2023. Pricing has yet to be revealed.
