The Frisco home of hedge fund manager and 2020 presidential contender Tom Steyer first hit the market in the late summer of last year with an $11 million ask. The 1908-built, 5,625 sq. ft. freestanding residence has had its price knocked down a million, to $9.995 million, and that seems to have done the trick; the property is pending sale.
For a city dwelling, the home’s outdoor living area packs in a great deal of meditative atmosphere and a rather masterful turn at privacy landscaping—including a rill in the midst of a particularly lush passel of plantings.
The home’s interiors have been modernized over the years, with midcentury style prominent, especially in the kitchen. Original details remain, though; in the shared living area, they include inlaid, narrow-plank oak floors, and a pair of fireplaces, one with a tasteful marble surround and a neoclassical mantel.
Surprises include a set of floating built-in shelves that begin a foot above the floor and extend to the ceiling, negotiating a corner and including a rather sculptural rail ladder along the way. Seven bedrooms in all, with San Francisco views from the top-floor master getting a blue ribbon.
Steyer’s net worth is north of $1 billion.
