The Porsche Unseen book that first hit virtual shelves last November has generated a lot of curiosity. Not surprising; the 328 pages of the tome offer a series of illuminating windows into the workaday design process of the legendary automaker, with concepts and ideas that run the gamut from the nostalgic to the heavyweight.
The 911 Vision Safari straddles both camps—the wistfully historic and the brazenly capable—as it arose out of the 991 but recalled the spirit of the 1970s 911 Safari and the East African Safari Rally that employed it.
An endurance racer, the 911 Vision Safari features a raised chassis, muscular bumpers, and a motorsport greenhouse cockpit. Like many of the concepts in the book, it was drawn up in the early 2010s. Other entries include the Vision 920 and Vision 960 Turismo.
