It’s not too early to begin planning your spring adventures for this year, so KTM’s unveiling of the 2021 1290 Super Adventure S bike is actually quite timely.

KTM introduced the S variation of the 1290 Super Adventure line a few years ago. The model marries a powerful engine with a versatile riding experience; this is a motorcycle intended for road trips that may or may not involve non-pavement roads. The bike’s four traction and performance optimization modes—Sport, Offroad, Street and Rain—cover pretty much all contingencies encountered during any ‘let’s get lost’ weekend foray.

For 2021, the SAS features adaptive cruise control, a new switch gear and a 7-inch digital touchscreen for easy on-the-fly negotiation. Also featured on the 2021 iteration is a new version of the bike’s WP SAT semi-active suspension.

Rolling over into the new model year is the 1301 cc V-twin engine; no updates needed here. And the lightweight frame, LED headlamp, and adjustable handlebars also transfer over.

For 2020, the KTM 1290 Super Adventure S was tagged at $19K. For 2021, expect a modest increase in price.
