Suzanne Somers, star of sitcoms Three’s Company and Step by Step, relisted her retreat in the hills above Palm Springs this winter. Somers and her husband, Alan Hamel, are now asking $8.5 million for the compound, which spans about 70 acres in a rocky corner of the city’s outskirts. The estate was listed as high as $14.5 million in the past.
Accessible by a private funicular railway, the property features a series of indoor and outdoor living areas that accumulate into a rustic and splendidly isolated desert living style that whispers both native and European influence. The main house is akin to a French country cottage, and features interiors with stone tile floors, a carved fireplace, and soft stucco or plaster walls.
The main home’s outdoor living area encompasses both a pool and a tile patio—surrounded by flowering and non-flowering desert flora—but the compound extends to include a marvelous stacked stone guest house. Other amenities on the property include guest cottages, a waterfall pond, an amphitheater, and numerous outdoor living areas connected by walking paths.
A magical and timeless property, and one that the couple has owned since 1977.
