Tech industry figure and Paypal co-founder Peter Thiel now owns this waterfront Miami Beach compound. The billionaire dropped $18 million for the estate; the seller was former Ford figurehead Jacques Nasser. The transaction took place in the final quarter of last year.
The estate on Biscayne is something of a celebrity. In the mid-1990s, it was used as the primary location for the MTV series The Real World: Miami. At least one of the homes dates to the mid-1950s.
A combination of two houses, the Venetian Islands property’s interiors measure in at well over 10,000 sq. ft. One of the homes is a two-level, the other is a single-floor design. Both feature plentiful ocean-side glass and twin patios and pools; there are two docks on the estate, with one featuring a boat lift.
The Venetian Islands is a manmade residential archipelago developed in the 1920s. The six islands in the chain extend from Miami to Miami Beach, and are connected by a causeway.
Thiel is co-founder of Palantir Technologies and Founders Fund. His net worth is in the neighborhood of $7 billion.
