For the upcoming model year, BMW is planning to produce a very special high performance sedan. The M5 variant is called the M5 CS, and it’s fast, light, and production will be limited to 2022.

BMW declares the variant the ‘fastest, most powerful road-legal BMW yet’; the car’s 4.4L M TwinPower V8 turbo engine produces 627 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque. The M5 CS—the suffix indicates Competition Sport—can reach 60 MPH in 2.9 seconds, and a top speed of 190 MPH. It comes with M xDrive, which adjusts torque according to the 2WD or 4WD mode selected.

The car’s cosmetics are striking. The traditional BMW kidney grille comes with a bronze-toned surround and 20-inch rims, the headlamps feature yellow LEDs and black accents, and the calipers of the M Carbon Ceramic brakes are given an accent color and M badging. The M5 CS is also considerably lighter than the M5 and M5 Competition both, with carbon fiber rear diffuser and spoiler, and front splitter and hood helping to shed the weight.

Special M Carbon bucket sport seats also trim pounds from the M5 CS, and give the interiors an intensely sporty look. The cabin cosmetics are completed with red trim, and red and blue M accents on the seat belts. The variant features special badging inside and out.

The 2021 BMW M5 comes with a base sticker price of $104K. The 2022 M5 CS is priced from $143K.
