Sylvester Stallone has apparently heard the siren song of Florida, as reports the Palm Beach Daily News. But then, one look at the idyllic old-Florida appeal of the $35.4 million property the action star and Rocky screenwriter purchased as a holiday gift would charm the winter boots off even the most blasé New Englander.

The house went up just six years ago, but it is designed to integrate as fully as possible with its immediate landscape, and with Florida’s architectural history as well. The 13,250 square-footer’s sits amid a fine company of palms—they sprout up in the lawns around the home’s perimeter like a pod of dolphins—and its stucco exterior is laden with expressions of colonial Caribbean architecture.

The interiors sport a stylistic amalgam of Caribbean, cottage, and modern elements, accumulating as a contemporary odyssey that’s as expectation-defying as the home’s exterior. Highlights include the kitchen, which establishes a fine sense of scale by employing particularly striking figured hardwood for its cabinetry, some of which extends to the ceiling, and the glassy living area. The master bedroom features a hipped roof and a balcony overlooking the outdoor living area.

The house is designed around a courtyard—which is covered in lawn—with a small pool. A guest house, guest pavilion and cabana occupy the gentle gradient toward the 250-foot beach, a prime feature that beguiles like a secluded lagoon and was likely the deciding factor in the closing.
