Architect Hal Levitt’s Holt House, a residential landmark of Beverly Hills, popped up on the open market late this fall. The current owner has listed the property with an asking price of $26 million.

The fully-dressed 6,189 sq. ft. modern was designed in 1962 as a declaration of high-minded and high-dollar contemporary design. It’s packed with unusual details, including the inset slab hardwood accent counter and wet bar—burl maple?—and the catwalk that joins the wings that house the accommodations and shared living area. This bridge-like feature extends over water in the style of Japanese garden design; in this case, it traverses the swimming pool. The splendid architectural flourish also features pocketing glass walls for colder stretches.

The house also boasts terrazzo floors throughout, as well as support posts—which add definition and thematic cohesion—and, of course, lots of glass; floor-to-ceiling panes and skylights are used to augment the open living style and increase the connection with the setting. The landscaping near the structure also serves to incorporate this blurring of interior/exterior demarcations, while it invites exploration of the 1.43 acres of grounds.
