The newest look into Porsche’s design archives through the window of the new Porsche Unseen book is something of a departure—and also an expression of VW Group solidarity.
It’s called the Vision Renndienst. The archive examples included in the book are ideas hatched by Porsche’s design team and, like the first series released by Porsche earlier this fall, the Renndienst was dreamed up in the past few years.
The van is inspired by a VW that faithfully supported Porsche in the 1960s. One look will tell you it was likely intended to be an EV, and it was; more than that, though, it was intended to be a ‘space shuttle’-inspired vehicle, and a ‘family-friendly’ one at that, with a center driver’s seat and a modular cabin with plentiful space due to an artfully discreet positioning of the drivetrain components.
Other recent chapters from the 328-page book include the Vision Spyder and the Vision 920, both of which were developed in 2019.
