Perhaps planning a sunny solstice, Quebecoise chanteuse Avril Lavigne decided to pick up a beach house this winter for Southern California getaways. The Malibu property new to Lavigne’s portfolio is a contemporary of about 3,500 square feet, and the singer called it hers for $7.8 million.
The home’s a beaut, and so is the .63-acre lot; the latter is a green glade of lawn and privacy landscaping extending streetside to an unobstructed ocean view, with a guest house and garage along the way. The former contains three bedrooms and three baths; the heart of the home is a borderline spectacular open-concept living area with a raw ceiling and views that take in only the property and the ocean beyond.
The exterior living area is transitional, and begins with a fire pit lounging and dining spot on the upper patio. As the property’s gradient slopes away toward the ocean, tiered planters and a lower pool deck emerges amid a large swath of lawn. Amenities include an infrared sauna and a wine closet.
Lavigne’s other SoCal properties have included a 10,000 sq. ft. manor in Sherman Oaks, which she purchased with now ex-husband Chad Kroeger of the band Nickelback; the property hit the market in late 2018 at $8 million, and sold earlier this year for $5 million against a $5.4 million purchase price.
Lavigne has sold over 70 million records worldwide. Her latest studio album, Head Above Water, came out last year.
