Spencer Rascoff—the co-founder of real estate marketplace Zillow—recently purchased this extremely charming residence in Los Angeles for $5.7 million dollars. The 3,241 sq. ft. house is located in the Brentwood Park neighborhood, and was constructed in 1951.

The home features a fieldstone exterior and, with the romantic landscaping and garden design that frames it, immediately sets an atmosphere of fantastical escape, specifically a Journey to the East. The preambles to entry are a glossy hardwood arbor embraced by a flowering hedge and a Japanese bridge.

Inside the post-and-beam house: exposed supports, trusses and ceilings, hardwood-framed doors and windows, skylights, a colorfully custom-tiled bath, shoji-inspired pocket doors, and the storybook fieldstone fireplace accent wall that is the centerpiece of the common areas. The master bedroom—one of three in the home—features another fireplace, but of stacked slate.

The lot measures in at just over a quarter acre. The tree-dense area makes for a terrific setting, though, making the gardens, meditation areas and outdoor fireplace feel as far from L.A. as it’s possible to be in Brentwood.
