Frank Lloyd Wright in Phoenix Hits the Market With $8M Price Tag

The final Frank Lloyd Wright-commissioned home—the Lykes House, in Arizona—returned to the market this month with a $7.995 million asking price.

The 3,095 sq. ft. house is perched on a hill overlooking the dramatic desert landscape. It is designed as a series of intersecting circles; the architecture references the indigenous culture of the area, is a pragmatic approach to the realities of the local meteorology—as its shape and flow is intended to capitalize on the cooling desert winds—and stands in the Wright oeuvre as one of the architect’s more audacious design.

Standout details of the interiors include the window seat in the great room, the half-moon windows in the kitchen, the common area fireplace and the mahogany-paneled hallway and bedrooms. A small courtyard with a step-down patio and pool area is featured on the 1.3-acre grounds.

Other Frank Lloyd Wright residential properties that have appeared on the market this year include the George Millard House, located in the Chicago suburb of Highland Park, and the Carr House, which surfaced on the Glenview, Il, open market about a month ago, and is currently priced at $1.7 million.
