The latest entry in Montblanc’s Great Characters series is homage to the King—of rock-‘n-roll, that is.
In creating trophy writing instruments that hail to the King—something of a pop chameleon long before Bowie—you might think the venerable company had to pack in a huge amount of varied details, from jailhouse stripes to jumbo guitars, plentiful sequins to deep-fried peanut butter-and-banana sandwiches.
Of course, Montblanc took the pop cultural road less traveled. The gold entry in the set brings the Hawaii suit into focus, but the designs also highlight details of Elvis’ life and personality that include more obscure imagery like a spark plug and a V-shaped clip, choices arising from Elvis’ appreciation for larger cars, especially Cadillacs, His golden ring, and a riff on the aviator shades that were part of his allure also pop up on the pens.
Accessories accompanying the various pens include a set of cufflinks, a notebook that takes inspiration from his Hawaii stage outfit, and a copy of Elvis’ bracelet.
