This estate in Santa Ynez was formerly owned by Joan and Ray Kroc, of McDonald’s fame. The 550-acre property—which is, in its current incarnation, as much potential business or health retreat as personal residence—hit the open market this month with a $29 million ask.

The buildings include private homes—five of ’em, according to the listing, which specifies one of an indeterminate size, which was constructed in 1971, and four ‘single-family’ homes.

Other structures include a pair of bunk houses, a 17,000 sq. ft. lodge with 20 bedroom suites and a commercial kitchen, and a 5,200 sq. ft. conference hall that can also serve as an entertainment center.

The acreage rolls along the Santa Ynez foothills, and features lakes, wells and cisterns, as well as equestrian and livestock facilities that include corrals, barns, and paddocks.

The property’s history reaches back to the middle of the 19th century. When under the ownership of Ray and Joan Kroc, the property was known as Double Arch Ranch and Rambling Oaks Ranch.
