Hotelier Andre Balazs listed his pied-a-terre in Manhattan recently with a $12 million asking price. The unit is located in the New Museum Building in SoHo, a residential mid-rise with a long history. The New Museum Building originally went up in the final years of the 19th century; in 1996, it was converted to luxury residences in the loft style.

The interiors of this property were revised to taste by the current owner. As it stands, the residence features stone tile and very warm plank hardwood floors, planters, built-in shelves that also provide room definition, exposed timber supports, antique sconces, and the centerpieces of the common area: a fireplace accent wall in black Venetian plaster, and a platform discussion area that might be described as a salon.

There are four bedrooms and three baths in this 4,200 sq. ft. home. The dedicated baths are gems, with louvered cabinetry and plentiful greenery—including interior window planters— giving the spaces a unique, garden-like feel, but the master’s walk-in closet is astonishing, a gentleman clothes-horse’s dream space with generous racks and shelves and an undeniably masculine atmosphere.
