Fashion designer Eva Chow’s exquisitely realized home is back for the fall of 2020; the Los Angeles-area custom mansion’s latest price chop finds it at a flat $65 million.

The 30,000 sq. ft. postmodern house first appeared on the open market in October of 2018, when Eva and Michael Chow—the duo split in 2017—were looking for a buyer willing to drop $78 million on the extravagant residence. A price cut at the 12-month mark brought the asking price of the Holmby Hills property to just under $70 million. Ms. Chow reportedly took ownership of the home last year.

This house was seven years in the making, and completed in 2005. The Chows are noted collectors, and the home was intended to be a frame for their art collection; as the collection spans the centuries, the house suggests a similar conflation of timelines in its architecture and décor. As a result, the home itself is something of a historical aggregate. Materials used are sourced from the Renaissance—Florentine frescoes and columns—but architectural cues frequently veer into contemporary, with décor and fixtures filling out the historical survey by suggesting the fashions of bygone eras and varied cultures.

Surprises are many in this house. They include the juxtaposition of ebony paneling and a bright travertine fireplace in the library, and the baroque/deco inspirations found in the salon. Amenities include the remarkable home theater in the guest house; it is done in blues, and features windows that look out into the opaque cerulean of the swimming pool that abuts the auxiliary residence.
