Off the production line, the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4-Door Coupe is one of the prettiest and most capable performance sedans available. This limited-edition offering from German tuning shop Brabus uses the model as a foundation for a new creation—beginning the transformation by pulling out the AMG 4L V8 and subjecting it to all manner of tweaks. It did the same last year; the Brabus 800 delivered 800 horses.
Brabus calls the latest iteration the Rocket 900 ‘One of Ten’; it’s one in a series, as the company unveiled a G-Class with the same title last year. The engine has been opened up and given bigger turbos, and forged pistons. The powerplant delivers nearly 900 horsepower and over 900 pound-feet of torque through a nine-speed automatic gearbox. Brabus also gave the model a carbon-fiber wide-body component package.
The car is designed to be a daily driver as readily as a weekend rocket. As such, it balances comfort and performance, making for a cushy trip to the 205 MPH top speed. Inside the Rocket 900, Brabus fitted the cabin with their Masterpiece treatment: leather, Alcantara and diamond-quilt upholstery are featured. Aluminum pedal pads and Brabus shift pedals are also available.
The Rocket 900 is limited to 10 examples and carries a $500,000 price tag.
