Memphis Grizzlies owner Robert Pera has a new pied-a-terre in the sky for jaunts to Manhattan. The tech tycoon purchased the penthouse of the 56 Leonard condo building in Tribeca, spending $21.6 mil for the privilege of occupying the property, which has been titled Penthouse 57.
The unit’s postmodern loft concept design is occasionally surprising; the kitchen, which features a glossy, black, triangular cooktop island and a white triangular vent hood above it that rises to meet the ceiling, is an exercise in sculptural understatement. Natural-toned plank hardwood, concrete supports, and the convergence of 14-foot ceilings and walls of staggered glass panes are a few additional details that make the residence uniquely dream-like.
The penthouse condo measures 5,252 sq. ft., with four bedrooms and five baths. The master suite is a corner space, and both bedroom and bath take in astonishing eagle-eye views of the city, harbor, bridges and Hudson River; the view from the soaking tub is especially impressive. The condo boasts a library and a formal great room with a freestanding fireplace.
Penthouse 57 had been priced at $24.5 million prior to the sale. 56 Leonard was designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architectural firm Herzog & Meuron. The building’s list of amenities includes a fitness center with a 75-foot lap pool, a screening room, a lounge, and a redwood sauna.
At only 42, Pera is one of the youngest billionaires in the world. He is the founder of Ubiquiti Networks, a communications technology company. His net worth is north of $10 billion.
