Porsche’s Panamera has proved to be one heck of a sleeper model. The executive sedan’s sales track record consistently puts it at the top of the Porsche roster. So, for 2021, the EV-shy German automaker is going to give the model lineup a plug-in hybrid entry—with a ‘Turbo S’ variant to accompany it—and see how it fares next to its ICE brethren.
In the late summer, Porsche introduced the 2021 Panamera family, including the hybridized entries, which is called the E-Hybrid. The body has changed significantly, especially in the rear, where a fastback-inspired gradient has been replaced by a crossover-like wagon look. Good news for prospective buyers of the performance cars this year is the fact that PASM—Porsche Active Suspension Management—is standard, and there’s more power throughout the lineup.
Other cheering news for prospective new Panamera owners is the fact that the ‘Turbo S’ hybrid is the most potent Panamera of them all. The flagship Turbo S E-Hybrid is outfitted with a 4L V8 biturbo and an electric component which collectively produce nearly 700 horsepower. Top speed is nearly 200 MPH. But the non-turbo 4 E-Hybrid is no slouch; its 2.9L V6 biturbo ICE/electric combination delivers up to 455 HP.
Finally, the non-hybrid 4S manages to squeeze a highly respectable 443 horsepower out of the 2.9L V6.
The trio of high-performance cars are available in sedan, Sport Turismo and Executive body styles.
