Justyn Howard, founder and CEO of billion-dollar tech company Sprout Social, is celebrating his success with a new residential acquisition in Malibu. The inventive technologist dropped a neat $16.1 mil on the property, which spans 2.79 acres in the hills above Encinal Canyon.

The slick contemporary modern went up last year, and first hit the market that August with a $19.5 million ask. The property was priced at $18.995 million prior to the sale.

The five-bedroom home’s architecture balances chilly mathematics with a great deal of warmth; the hardwood that is featured so prominently as an accent material in the exterior of the build really flourishes inside, and the satin finish used for the plank flooring and ceiling embellishments marks a welcome departure from the expected matte.

An elevated foyer offers step-down options to the main living spaces and the 9,838 sq. ft.  home’s accommodations. Varying eras of modern are voiced in this house; staircases use tension wire for balustrades, suggesting the high modern style, while the freestanding fireplace accent wall in stacked limestone and the geometric evocations hint at midcentury.

The glassiness is heaviest in the back of the house, of course, allowing for splendid ocean views, and a massive wall of fold-away glass opens up the common area to create an indoor/outdoor living style. Outside, a meditation garden, bedroom balconies, a main terrace and a hardwood sundeck with a swimming pool round out this well-executed newer home just north of the PCH.
