New to the greater-NYC real estate market this month is this waterfront property on Long Island. Kim Cattrall listed the Hamptons getaway for $3.25 million. She’s owned it since the heyday of Sex and the City.
The 1988-built house on Gardiner’s Bay looks very much like an artist’s retreat—weathered shingles, a glassy façade, and two bedrooms and two baths in 1,300 sq. ft. of interior living space. An unprepossessing house with a meditatively simple living style, perfect for weekend, summer and holiday battery-recharging.
The interiors are designed around a classic, literate version of rusticity. Details include custom bamboo cabinets in the kitchen—which give the house a green soul—and a vaulted ceiling finished with pine plank. Other sources of expression in this house include wood-framed windows, sliding glass doors, a fireplace, and semi-gloss plank floors. The accommodations in this house are augmented by a sleeping loft, which is accessible by a ladder. Classic stuff.
Amenities include a projector and motorized screen—59 inches by 80—that converts the common area to an impromptu theater. Mahogany decks front and back extend the living area considerably for fair weather, with a bluestone walkway leading to a little studio on the landward side of the property that could easily be converted into a small guest house. No pool—not necessary, really—but a hot tub looks just the ticket for cool weather vacations.
Cattrall played Samantha Jones in television and film series Sex and the City. She currently stars in drama series Filthy Rich.
