This month, Geena Davis sold her vine-covered, Tuscan-inspired Los Angeles-area home for $5.6 million. The Academy Award-winning actress didn’t have long to wait before a solid offer came along—the home hit the market at $6 million in high summer, and sold in early fall.

The villa was constructed in 1999, and boasts a long list of surprisingly engaging features. Outside, the stucco home is dressed in a subtle shade of yellow, with soft green doors and trim. Ornamental columns, lantern sconces and, in back, a covered porch are other notable exterior features.

Inside the house are the details which distinguish this special house. Striking visuals include a fireplace with a raised hearth finished in colorful artisanal tile, a floor-to-ceiling bank of built-in shelves, a kitchen in blue and green tile and stone, a master suite with a vaulted ceiling and exposed timber—and another custom tile fireplace—and scraped plank hardwood floors. French doors are used throughout, a transitional motif that suggests liberation at every opportunity.

The centerpiece of the home is undoubtedly a carved fireplace in the form of a particularly animated Green Man; the playful sculpture rims the fireplace opening with teeth, and extends to the borders of the floor-to-ceiling surround. The back forty might be the property charmer, though, and features a slate patio sheltered by an attached pergola, walkways bordered by overgrown flora, gardens, stone walls, and tiered planters.

Davis won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for 1988’s The Accidental Tourist. Her acting credits also include A League of Their Own, also starring Tom Hanks and Madonna.
