This exceedingly warm, fairly recently built modern-style in West Hollywood is currently owned by actor Tobey Maguire, but he’d like to sell it to you if you’re house-hunting in the neighborhood and you have $4.195 million. The house measures 3,250 sq. ft., and contains three bedrooms and four baths.
The house was designed by Clive Wilkinson—whose major works include the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television, and the BMW Research and Innovation Center complex—and went up in 2007. Its exterior is heavy on the poured concrete, resulting in a somewhat imposing façade, but the interiors temper the use of concrete with a great deal of hardwood for expression.
Especially striking is the kitchen, which blends plank hardwood, custom hardwood cabinetry, a butcher-block waterfall island, and a layout that places a modest marble-capped bar against one wall; a staircase with wood treads and solid wood balustrade, rises to an upper floor lounge with exposed joists overhead. There’s a great deal of glass involved in the built too, of course, and sliding glass opens frequently to create interior/exterior living areas that incorporate the patios and pool area.
Outside, a kitchen with a grill stands on the lower level of a tiered deck complex. A roof deck and landscaping that incorporates mature olive trees rounds out this interesting and thoughtful modern just south of Melrose.
Maguire stars in the upcoming Babylon alongside Brad Pitt and Emma Stone.
