Elijah Wood listed this heavily modified home south of Austin, Texas, this month; the actor is looking for a buyer with $1.85 million to take ownership of the 1890-built property.
Wood has owned the residence since 2012. The house began its life as a Queen Anne-style, but revisions carried out far more recently—specifically, a prominent bank of third-floor windows—have given it more contemporary façade. Original details inside the home include the staircase newel finials, and likely the plank floors as well, which carry a sense of history that renovators and builders continue to try to approximate—usually without much luck. Otherwise, the home’s living style has been converted into a well-defined contemporary warmth, with glossy dark wood trim against off-white.
Of the four bedrooms, the third-floor master comes off best. That paned bank of windows liberates the space splendidly, and the converted attic’s eccentric lines and corners give the space considerable character. Outside, covered porches front and back look ready for lazy afternoons, bringing the home into line with the location’s sense of the traditional.
Wood stars in the upcoming L.A. Rush.
