Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez Take $6.8M for Malibu Retreat

This Malibu beachfront hasn’t spent much time off-market in the past few years. Jeremy Piven owned it for well over a decade, purchasing it in the mid-2000s for $3.5 million; his initial asking price was $10.5 million, although by the time Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez came along with a $6.6 million offer in the winter of last year, it was enough to see it through to closing.

The Lopez-Rodriguez collective, in turn, listed the home about a year and a half after buying it, which brings us to August of last year. The couple didn’t have to wait quite as long to sell it as Mr. Piven. It’s only been a little more than a month since the home hit the market at $7.99 million, but the house has a new owner; this time around, the residence sold for $6.775 million. Easy come, easy go.

The house itself is in mid-renovation. When Piven had offered it for sale, its interiors were expressed by a mix of contemporary Malibu beach house and old Malibu cottage: plentiful sliding glass, and a bright white treatment for abundant reflected light. From the street, the 1949-built house looks its vintage, with creeping vines hiding exterior walls and overrunning the gated trellis entrance. The tile-floored, pergola-covered courtyard is a suitably relaxed preamble to the living style.

The highlights of the home include the master suite—generously proportioned and, until recently one surmises, boasting a river-stone clad master bath—and the huge, bright, tile-floored entertainment and living space on the first level.
