Ares Design—the Italian automotive designer and manufacturer co-founded by former Lotus CEO Dany Bahar—has only been around for a few years, but the company’s coach-built ProgettoUno is familiar to anyone who follows the world of exotics.
Ares has a new car to show off—the S1 Project—and it marks an absolute departure from the 1970s-inspired design language. While the ProgettoUno had the De Tomaso Pantera as progenitor; the S1 Project uses the C8 Corvette as base but claims no kinship.
Corvette design elements are largely muted, and largely unrecognizable. The exaggerated, flared wheel wells and flanks, the single rear strip light, and the pair of oval vents in the back lend a little Batmobile to the car. The V8 engine is native to the ‘Vette, but has been tuned to deliver over 700 horsepower.
Ares will produce 24 examples of the S Project. The production window is set for 2 years. Price starts around $600K.
