The one-time coastal Southern California retreat of Doris Day—America’s Sweetheart, as she was known—has come up for sale to round out the summer of 2020. The home where the popular singer and actress once relaxed is priced at $7.4 million.

The property in Carmel extends to well over eight acres. It borders a golf course, and the main house boasts fairway views. The property also includes a detached guest house and a gate house.

The interiors of the main house are cottage-inspired, and very warm; various soft yellows pop up in most rooms, and set off the beige stone floors nicely. The guest house features plank hardwood floors, ceilings with exposed trussing, and French doors opening onto a private terrace.

The acreage allows for a luxuriously expressed outdoor living style. Stone walking paths traverse the lush gardens; a fire feature, a water feature and many mature oaks give the acreage definition and endless charm.

Day starred in 1959’s Pillow Talk opposite Rock Hudson. His onetime home L.A. recently sold for $3.1 million.
