Mariah Carey Summering at Bucolic New York Manse

Mariah Carey’s summer retreat is in Bedford, New York, according to Variety. Bedford is a sleepy bedroom community in Westchester County, about an hour outside of Manhattan; it is a celebrity favorite, and we’ve covered properties in the hamlet owned by Glenn Close, Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Bruce Willis, among others.

The short-term lease marks a return to Bedford for native New Yorker Carey, who lived in the village back in the 1990s when she was wed to producer Tommy Mottola; the couple’s custom-built mansion sold in 1998 for $20 million, and later burned down.

Carey’s latest residential accomodations are anchored by a contemporary manor that was constructed in 2006. It contains six bedrooms and nine baths in its 10,500 sq. ft. Its exterior features stone and a hipped roofline. Interior details include coffered ceilings, hardwood plank and stone tile floors, French doors, casement windows, and neutral tones. The family room, living room and den boast fireplaces, each distinctly individual.

The accommodations include five suites. The layout places three of them upstairs, and gives them a deck with an outdoor fireplace, a gym and a home theater to share between them. Guest and staff suites are located on the ground floor.

The five acres of grounds include forest, lawns, formal gardens with footpaths and water features, and an outdoor living and dining area with a kitchen. The pool—designed in the shape of a violin—is just one of the outdoor recreational options; others include the sports court and ball field.

Carey has sold over 200 million albums throughout her career. She holds the record for most number-one singles by a solo artist. Her latest album, Caution, was released in 2018. It was followed by the Caution World Tour the following year.
