Brabham Turns Heads With New BT62R Hypercar

In the spring of 2018, fledgling British-Australian firm Brabham Automotive rolled out a new model: the track-only BT62, and its variants, the Competition and Ultimate Track.

Less than a year later, Brabham revealed a kit that would transform the BT62 siblings into street-legal supercars. The kit—priced from ~$200K—made it possible for exotic car collectors to own a version of the naturally aspirated V8-powered monster that could be both hobbyist competitor and weekend escape.

To round out 2020, Brabham decided to follow up the BT62 and its optional road package with an option that would let buyers desiring a street-legal version skip the middle man. The company calls it the BT62R. Like the track-only versions of the model, the car’s V8 can produce about 700 horsepower, and cabin design is Spartan. A six-speed sequential gearbox delivers the energy.

Customization options for the BT62R include two liveries; the Celebration Series is a visual homage to Brabham’s racing heyday of the 1960s, while the Signature Series is essentially a blank canvas prior to a buyer’s specification.
