It seems that actress Joanna Kerns and her husband, architect Marc Appleton, didn’t have a protracted marketing process in store for them when they listed their villa in Montecito for sale a month ago. The couple was looking for $8.5 million for the Tuscany-inspired property, and sold it in short order for $8.4 million.
The house dates to 2006, but its period and cultural conceit is alluring indeed. Paints, finishes, antiquing, and a rustic treatment give the impression of a Tuscan country house, and the effect is convincing. Exposed, unfinished beams, wood-framed French doors capped with fanlight windows, hand-painted tile, stucco, and period-style lighting and bathroom fixtures are among the details of the home.
The property exterior is as enchanting. The motor court features a ring planter with a venerable tree as a centerpiece, and the grounds are a wildly romantic odyssey of gardens, meditation spots, and walking paths, with a pool and a guest house sequestered amid the fantasy.
Kerns recently directed an episode of the Roswell, New Mexico television series.
