2021 Porsche Panamera Maintains Relevance With Improvements on All Fronts

Porsche revealed 2021 model year updates to its executive performance sedan, the Panamera, this week. What’s new for next year? Most importantly: a pair of new variations on the theme for 2021, and also more efficient V6 and V8 engines. And a few cosmetic changes give the lineup a revised look befitting a mid-cycle rethink.

First on the list are the new additions to the lineup. Porsche has filled in the Panamera family with a hybrid—the ‘4S E-Hybrid’—which takes the place of the Panamera Turbo. Those enamored of that good ol’ turbo frisson will have to spend the extra cash on the Turbo S variant.

Next up: alterations to the Panamera family’s drivetrain. The entry-level V6 has been redesigned in a slightly smaller biturbo format; it loses 5 horsepower but, one assumes, gains some MPG resilience; in the context of the 4S E-Hybrid and its new 17.9-kWh battery, the result is a 552-horsepower performance car with a green soul. The Panamera GTS’s V8, on the other hand, gets an efficiency-oriented redesign that boosts the horsepower rating from 452 to 473, and the biturbo design has less of a lag than before. The Turbo S has 620 HP available for 2021, and can hit 60 from a standstill in less than 3 seconds.

Cosmetic changes include the addition of Porsche’s SportDesign front end as standard. Also standard is PASM—Porsche Active Suspension Management System—which is good news for drivers who like a little thrill on a regular basis. That is, anyone who is seriously considering driving home a Panamera in 2021.
