The low-slung ranch featured as the residence in the sitcom ‘Golden Girls’ went up for sale about a month ago, and after a short sojourn on the market found a buyer at $4 million. A bidding war ensued, apparently, as the house was listed at $3 million when it hit the market in July.
The midcentury house features a well-defined Japanese influence that pops up in the interiors as a series of shoji screen-style doors. Other details of the home’s living spaces include narrow-plank oak floors, cottage built-ins, and an original masonry fireplace accent wall with a raised hearth.
Of all the rooms in this house, the kitchen and covered patio should’ve helped the bidding war along. For most, the combination of pastel green, pale blue and yellow might make for a too-intense kitchen treatment, but in this home it works very well. The covered patio is an extension of the great room, cathedral ceiling and all, joined via a glass wall with sliding doors; all in all, a wildly optimistic bit of interior/exterior architecture.
