Timeless fitness guru Mark Mastrov put his Bay Area estate back up for sale this summer. Mr. Mastrov is looking for $13.5 million for the property, a 3.3-acre slice of Lafayette, California, crowned with a custom-built, 8,000 sq. ft. contemporary house. He initially listed it in 2017, for the same asking price.
The home’s exterior architecture blends modern, traditional, farmhouse and villa styles into a warm postmodern amalgam. Mastrov purchased the property for $4.5 million in 2006, according to public records, and reportedly had the house custom-built; it was completed in 2012.
Inside, the overt craftsmanship charms readily. Most appealing is the contrasting of wood tones, the graceful curves, and the elements of refined rusticity. Details include stone accents, a barrel tray ceiling in the kitchen, stained hardwood support columns, and a wide-open living style in the common areas.
The home’s lavish entertaining/games room opens via a series of fold-away glass doors onto the outside recreation area; this home is designed for gatherings. The pool complex is massive and complex, with water jets and a spa grotto; it didn’t win the property any awards for water conservation, but it is decadent indeed.
Other amenities include a home cinema with video arcade, a lanai lounge with a fireplace and, of course, a professional training and fitness studio.
