Tech entrepreneur Nirav Tolia has put his 1916-built villa overlooking San Francisco Bay up for sale for $25 million.

Tolia has owned the house in the Pacific Heights neighborhood for nearly a decade. He paid $7 million for the 6,800 sq. ft. residence, and may well have embarked on a stem-to-stern revision; the interiors are a pleasing mix. The living room’s combination of ornate Roman-inspired coffered ceiling and potently expressed modern marble fireplace is particularly notable.

The home’s façade features neoclassical design elements; out back, it comes off as modern, with its three levels staggered to allow for second- and third-floor balcony space. In the open-concept kitchen and family area, a contemporary-style Scandinavian-inflected kitchen with floor-to-ceiling hardwood cabinetry and a narrow island and snack counter is featured on one end, a gas fireplace in a stone accent wall flanked with built-ins on the other, and a bank of sliding glass opening onto the outdoor living area illuminates all.

The six bedrooms and seven baths in this residence include a master suite that offers stunning views of the big bridge and the water, as well as the outdoor living area—which is substantially-sized for this corner of San Francisco, with a lawn, a patio, tiered planters, and a staircase.
