Actress Camila Mendes picked up this charmer of a Spanish-style bungalow in Silver Lake this month. Ms. Mendes had been looking at an asking price of a little less than two million, but an offer of $1.87 million did the trick.
The 1924-built, single-story cottage features the romantic design elements of the style outside, but within renovations have left it absolutely contemporary. The living spaces measure just over 2,000 square feet, and design details include modern lines, a stark fireplace, and natural-toned hardwood floors. The kitchen sports a traditional black-and-white treatment, giving it a whisper of 1920s décor sense, although the elongated hexagonal tile is more 21st century than 20th.
Sliding glass doors open to a large outdoor terrace overlooking Silver Lake—the views are very fine. But the first level’s outdoor area has consolations to offer as well, with a covered living and dining area, a nice stretch of lawn, and desert flora landscaping.
