Jaguar’s I-Pace may be one of the more attractive crossovers going, but is its strict EV soul off-putting to the all-important American market? Perhaps so; sales haven’t been quite what JLR had hoped for, and a battery shortage this year made it harder for those that wanted one to take delivery. To bring its spirited, ecologically-relevant, performance-oriented EV a little extra exposure, JLR has given the I-Pace a 2021 model year refresh that includes both cosmetic and tech updates.

The most essential revisions get top billing, and they are concerned with range and charge times. To provide the model’s persona with additional appeal to the daily driver, JLR updated the power train design courtesy of Jaguar’s Formula E customizations. A three-phase charger replaces the two-phase that has sufficed up until now, giving the car a nearly fifty percent range boost for each hour plugged in—compelling news for buyers with range anxiety. And the car can now be fully charged in just over eight hours, reducing the time necessary by a third. Forget to plug in when you got to work this morning? Not to worry; even with a 50-kW charger, you can have 39 miles of range in 15 minutes, enough for most commutes.

Sweetening the deal is the Pivi Pro infotainment system, an entirely new addition to the I-Pace. 3D surround cameras are also included, as well as creature comforts like heated seats, and improved surround-sound audio.
