SoCal restaurateur Rafael Vega, founder of Casa Vega, put his 1940-built Spanish-style Studio City hideaway on the market this month. The intensely romantic property—which, interestingly enough, lists Drew Barrymore as a previous owner—is priced at $5.289 million.
The 1.1-acre grounds are sublime for lovers of the ‘natural style’ of landscaping. Walking paths meander through lawn, ground cover, plant beds and planters, and mature trees. The centerpiece is a venerable oak with more that a few tales to tell, if tell it could; the largesse of its branches fans out over an outdoor lounge and dining area, one of the five intimate ‘retreats’ designed into this charming little estate.
Inside the main house, an intensely realized warm treatment prevails. It’s all a trifle heady, with walls and ceilings in burnished, soft gold, muted red, and off-white; textured wall covering varies from room to room, but is generally striking, and far from understated.
The kitchen’s skylights are a welcome moment of liberation. In the same vein, the master bath features a roof light, an unusual design flourish that helps make the home even more unique.
The guest house is an unusually large one for an estate of this size; of the property’s total of 6,456 square feet of interiors, the guest house receives its fair share. It boasts two bedrooms, a sizable kitchen, a single full bath, and a living room with a large stone fireplace.
