Past and present, and notwithstanding minor sleeper hits like the Panamera, the 911 is Porsche’s bread and butter. The fundamental design language is Porsche DNA, and lovers of the brand and what it represents know that no model is as evocative of Porsche singularity.
So the 911 variants and SEs keep coming. The newest is a treat from the creative at Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur. The Manufaktur arm of Porsche handles customization, one-offs, and unique limited-eds, and their newest entry in the latter category is the Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition, which reprises design elements from the 1950s and 1960s. It continues the Heritage Design series that was launched by Manufaktur last year, when the 911 Speedster with the Heritage Design treatment was announced.
Exclusive Manufaktur has an extensive portfolio of ready-made graphic enhancements, including graphics that honor Porsche racing, and the Targa 4S HDE employs prominent but judicious use of racing-inspired cosmetics. Cherry Metallic paint is the custom option, and the two-tone leather interior with corduroy accents recalls the early era and the 356.
The Targa 4S HDE is one of four models planned in the series, and 992 examples are planned for production. Like other special-edition Porsches, it comes with a companion piece: a chronograph watch unique to the model.
