For years now, a game of leapfrog one-upmanship has been raging between exotic carmakers Koegnisegg and Bugatti. With the current production car speed record doing time in the lobby of Bugatti headquarters, the ball is in Koenigsegg’s court. But they may have a car that can give them back the title they lost in 2019.

Back in March, the Geneva Auto Show was cancelled. That left automakers and their pride and joy reveals out in the cold. Koenigsegg, a small Swedish exotic automotive designer and builder, had been looking forward to this year’s Geneva show with great relish.

Koenigsegg’s Jesko Absolut, the firm’s best hope for taking back the prize from competitor Bugatti—who took the prize for speed when a Chiron hit 300 miles per hour late last summer—was one of the cars set for a dramatic reveal. The 1,600-horsepower Absolut, which is shooting for 310 MPH, should volley back to Bugatti before speeding back to native Sweden.

But, for the time being, we’re all in limbo, and that includes the Koenigsegg that might hit 310. Most exotic car lovers will be waiting with baited—and hopefully unmasked—breath to see how the Absolut performs if the world ever gets back to normal. Time will tell.
