As a grand tourer, Koenigsegg’s new Gemera may represent a rewriting of the formula. There is of course the available speed and performance of a hand-made, hyper-engineered sports car. But the Gemera also sports enough room to take a family of four out on their own grand tour, and it does so without making the cabin cramped, and without making any excuses regarding performance.

In that way, Koenigsegg may be positioning the company as a more comprehensive answer to the 21st-century aristocratic lifestyle rides of Bugatti redux, with whom they’ve had a running competition almost since the dawn of the century, but also similar offerings from the Brits. This is a car that boasts available torque of 2,600 pound-feet, but also front and back seat infotainment screens, three-zone climate control, and a bevy of cup holders; aside from all that, you can pack a fair amount of luggage into it.

The Gemera is also a fairly green car; most of its power comes from three electric motors, which collectively provide 1,100 horsepower of its 1,700 available. It’s also worth noting that its three-cylinder ICE is almost unbelievably efficient, as it makes up the difference, and rates at about 600 horsepower.

Koenigsegg models are extremely limited in production; the previous entry in the company’s road-going performance rogues gallery was the Jesko, which sold out in short order. Expect the same of the 300-example Gemera, and a fitting sticker price, too: $1.9 million.
