Producer Norman Lear—who approached 1970s TV program development by way of hotbutton topicality—has been trying to sell his estate in Brentwood for about five years now, and recently gave the price a trim to try once more to stimulate a sale.

The property first hit the open market in the early autumn of 2015, asking $55 million. About a year later, it was asking $40 million. The latest trim finds it at $35 million.

The famous estate is anchored by a ~14,000 square footer built in the mid-1980s that borrows from traditional, regency, and modern architecture by turns. The interiors are unpretentious and inviting, with exposed beams, built-ins, and a mix of tones (check out the lavender bath). Standout spaces include the wood-sheathed office, the library, the open-concept family room/dining room/kitchen—which is floored with white oak and terra-cotta tile—and of course the barrel-ceilinged master.

At well over seven acres, the grounds are as expansive as they are magnificently executed, with gardens, a storybook guest house, a pool and spa, a tennis court, and gardens and plantings supporting the generous living style.
