This week, Porsche announced the impending arrival of the Taycan 4S at U.S. dealerships.
The 4S is an important member of the Taycan family; as the current entry-level model, it could prove to be the top-selling variant over the next few years. More importantly, its lively presence on the roads might pave the way for the even less expensive version alluded to by Porsche’s head of research and development Michael Steiner in a widely publicized interview with Automotive News. That version would presumably be priced neck-and-neck with the $80K Tesla S. Although, in a different interview, Steiner insisted Porsche doesn’t consider Tesla a direct competitor, Porsche is clearly waiting to see how the Taycan 4S will fare against the S in the next year or so before green-lighting a notional $80K Taycan.
It might just fare well. Despite its $104K base sticker, the Taycan 4S offers a lot to the buyer juggling an ownership jones that weds sports car and EV; its drivetrain delivers 522 horsepower, with Porsche’s Performance Battery Plus setup giving the power a 10% boost. Porsche’s specs put the range at 203 miles, but Autoblog‘s testing indicates it may be capable of around 300 miles between full charges.
For those who have already ordered their Taycan 4S, Porsche is making it easy to drive it home; in fact, they’ll do it for you, sustaining zero contact during the procedure. It is also possible to set up a time to collect a pre-ordered Taycan 4S at the dealership.
