Actor Gary Sinise has listed his longtime home in Calabasas for sale for $3.795 million. According to public records, Sinise has owned the property since 2008, when he paid $3.55 million for it. The house was built two years prior, and presumably the Academy Award-nominee is its first owner.
The five-bedroom home’s architectural style could be called postmodern East Coast traditional, a blend of farmhouse, traditional, and Cape Cod styles. Its front walk is a picture-perfect mix of gently rising stone steps in series, ornamental pilasters, and Sunday afternoon landscaping, an ideal prologue for a house with engineered period charm to burn.
An interesting feature of the 5,336-square-footer is the dramatically recessed entrance; there’s nearly a hallway or mudroom before the front door. Once ingress is achieved, though, the home’s crown moldings, wainscoting, and antiqued plank hardwood set the tone for the rest of the house.
The Romanesque fireplace in the living room is as adventurous as this home gets; there’s tremendous comfort in the familiar, and this house sticks to the tried-and-true tropes of interior design and architecture. Accommodations are designed in a multiple-suite layout, with the master one of the finer we’ve seen in some time—the bedroom is a spacious, bright, optimistic spot that’s as cottage-casual as it is refined traditional.
The lot measures nearly half an acre, a fair size for this corner of Calabasas, and enough space to conjure an enchanted time and place with romantic landscaping—meandering path, koi pond with water feature and faux pier, and a solid green border wall for privacy—as well as a large pergola-covered stone patio with a kitchen and outdoor fireplace, and a freeform swimming pool.
Sinise delivered memorable performances in Forrest Gump and Truman, among others.
