HGTV fixture Tarek El Moussa and significant other Heather Rae Young sold a home this spring and did very well on the transaction indeed. In fact, if El Moussa needed to sustain his credibility outside his professional life—as host of popular house-flipping enthusiast program ‘Flip or Flop’—he couldn’t have done much better; in the end, the home sold for $130K dollars over ask.
The home is located in Costa Mesa, a city with a healthy housing market. It’s also a contemporary farmhouse, a hot style these days. The property is demarcated by a plank fence in a honey-toned finish; behind it, the home’s mix of modern, farmhouse, and industrial styles comes off as a striking contrast. A poured concrete drive transitions to poured concrete front steps.
The 3,000 square feet of interiors are designed around a semi-courtyard, with folding glass opening on three sides to it, incorporating the pool and spa more forcefully into the living style. The shared living room works with a diverse series of design elements, including a series of clerestory windows, cathedral ceilings with guy tension cable supports, and the centerpiece: a fireplace accent wall in herringbone-pattern tile.
The master bedroom also receives an interesting composition: cane wall covering, a Spanish colonial chandelier, and a barn door dividing it from its en-suite bath. Most of the other rooms achieve a similar breadth of ambition in stylistic vision.
The exterior living areas include a transition room, as well as a bar with a grill station.
