Jaguar Land Rover’s electric offerings for the 2020 model year now extend to a pair of new plug-in hybrid variants: the Land Rover Discovery Sport P300e, and the Range Rover Evoque P300e. The models fill out the PHEV options for the entry-level segment of both the Land Rover and Range Rover lines, and could be top sellers for JLR in the next few years.
First off, the range of these rovers. Both fare well in the all-important range anxiety consideration, delivering around 40 miles to drivers, enough mileage space for most daily commutes, and perhaps post-work errands as well. A DC quick charger can restore 100% available energy in just 30 minutes.
Both SUVs are equipped with a 1.5L three-cylinder turbocharged engine; the electric motor is on the rear axle of each. Total horsepower rating for the pair is 305, with 372 pound-feet of torque available. An eight-speed automatic delivers the power.
Speed and mileage are also good. The duo can hit 84 in electric only; the Evoque P300e offers drivers 201 miles-per-gallon equivalent, and the Discovery Sport P300e 175. And JLR’s hybrid architecture sequesters the EV drivetrain necessities under the seats, leaving plenty of room for cargo.
As of now, Land Rover has no plans to send either of the two new PHEV SUVs across the pond. U.S. buyers interested in a Land Rover with a side of electrification should consider the Range Rover P400e or Range Rover Sport P400e.
