The size of the Cooper Mini would naturally suggest that it’s a sipper, not a guzzler. Perhaps no other car looks quite so specifically designed for urban environs. But the 2020 John Cooper Works GP variant’s looks might suggest it’s a bit less frugal with its fuel usage.
Not much less, as it turns out. Fuel economy information has been released for the car, and despite its 301 horsepower rating, its MPEG slots at 30 miles-per-gallon on the highway.
Mini rolled out the John Cooper Works GP last autumn. The car’s looks are ambitious; it’s a blend of street-racer and track aesthetic choices that accumulate into a slick but scrappy appeal. The roof-mounted wing is the icing on the cake, as it were.
The car’s turbocharged four-cylinder delivers about thirty percent more horsepower than the next most powerful Mini; a wide-open exhaust system helps. Its eight-speed auto gearbox is outfitted with a limited slip differential, and its stiffer suspension is geared toward performance driving.
The variant commands a premium, though. The base sticker for the 2020 Mini JCW GP is $46K.
