2021 BMW 330e Plug-In Hybrid Delivers 22 Miles of Electric Range, Starts at $46K

BMW’s newest daily driver has been revealed. The 2021 330e PHEV is designed to be a luxurious, quick, reasonably priced commuter for the working professional. Its base sticker is just $46K.

The plug-in hybrid model represents yet another ‘almost EV’ for the European carmaker; unlike the puckish, urbane i3, which is a full-commitment all-electric model, this second 330e takes the 330 and makes it more efficient. Its 2L turbo four-cylinder engine is helped out by a single electric motor, and they collectively deliver 288 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. That’s enough juice to give the entry-level a 0-60 time of 5.6 seconds—with XtraBoost optioned.

Range is of course key, though, and although the 2021 330e gains around 30% in this area—it’s up to 22 miles in electric-only—whether or not that’s enough to make most workdays gas-free is of course up to the individual buyer. All-around fuel efficiency is rated at 75 MPGe, unless AWD is active.

There aren’t any thrills in electric-only mode, as the electric motor on its lonesome can get the 330e no higher on the speedometer than 87 MPH. But that’s going to be just fine with the BMW enthusiast who buys a copy of this nimble little drivetrain trickster—and that person will only have to pay a $4K premium over the standard ICE-only 330’s base sticker to drive home an eco-hero. A negligible difference for most buyers.

Look for the 2021 330e in dealerships in May, or after things have quieted down.
