This contemporary house was, until recently, the home of cannabis entrepreneur Andrew Modlin. But Modlin’s aspirations, like his stock in trade, have stimulated a dream of a higher nature, and he’s moved on up the Hills, as it were.
According to public records, he sold the property for $3.9 million; the transaction closed around the middle of March. The buyer was Emma Chamberlain, a young YouTube phenom.
She’s now living in a 4,075 square foot West Hollywood home that was built in 2016, and boasts a generous indoor/outdoor lifestyle. There’s a great deal of concrete in the build, and that particularly uncompromising material, along with a boxy, rather rigid architectural formalism, has yielded a house that is industrial and chilly.
Inside, though, a well-engineered sense of space, wide-plank satin-finished hardwood, and the abundant glass used establish and sustain a living style which is in touch with the spirit of the times. The creative workspace even boasts a wall of built-ins, a modicum of warmth that hints at depth. The lot is a small one, but a tall bank of privacy hedges does its job very well, creating a sanctuary-like feel.
