Back in 2015, legendary basketball player Patrick Ewing listed his estate in New Jersey for $7 million. The road to a sale was a long one for Ewing, with a number of price cuts, but the home finally sold this month when Ewing accepted an offer of $2.65 million for it; he purchased it in 2007, paying $6.35 million.
A dismal showing, but a resolution, and perhaps that’s enough. Ewing even offered it as a rental in the spring of last year—at $25K per month—so a sale was certainly welcome, however disappointing.
The house—a formal contemporary manor style—was built in the first years of this century. It measures 10,500 square feet, and contains seven bedrooms and ten baths.
The living style is dominated by warm tones and high-end materials. The foyer’s marble floors, and a sweeping floating staircase that rises to a rounded second-floor gallery. The warmth culminates in the kitchen, with a reddish-brown palette in floors, cabinetry, and countertops, and the library and office, which boasts dark wood built-ins, soft cherry herringbone floors, and a dramatic hardwood coffered ceiling.
The lot extends to 1.8 acres. There’s a half court, of course, along with a pool, lawns, and many mature trees.
Ewing put in an astonishing fifteen seasons with the New York Knicks, and was the team’s lynchpin for much of his tenure.
